Treasure Seeker

It seems like the world today is all about making money and then a little economic hardship hit. For a few weeks people stopped spending on those things that were unnecessary and just got by with the essentials. But it would seem that as the economy looks up, people are once again spending a little more lavishly. I wonder, how much debt does this country have to accumulate before they realize that it's not getting them anywhere. It would seem that we are the wealthiest country in the world, but how many foreigners would also call us stupid? Is it possible to be the wealthiest and the stupidest? It would appear so...

When it comes to money, does the body of believers look different? We say we tithe, but is that really being honest with ourselves? Maybe it is true, but is that all? Are we only giving the ten percent that we are told to give in the Bible? In Matthew 6:21 it says, "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." So taking God at His word, it would be right to assume that believers hearts are focused on this world more than the eternal world to come, if they are spending their money on the worlds treasures. Wow! If that isn't convicting!

The Treasure Principle pointed out that our focus should be on our eternal treasure rather than the treasures of this world. God wanted us to realize that out of love for us, He wants us to be focused on eternal treasure because it will last. The world's treasures can vanish in seconds. Think about the rich investor, in mere minutes He could lose all that He has invested. Not only that, but if you were to ask some of the richest people to have lived, how many would say that they were able to enjoy all their riches?

I want to encourage you to take a little time to read Randy Alcorn's book, The Treasure Principle. And I challenge you to trust God. It's easy to say we trust Him, but can we say that we not only trust Him with our hearts, but with our wallets too? And rather than simply rejoicing when He blesses you with a little extra, think about giving it back to Him. Consider, it is all His, when we accept Him as Savior, we are not completely His slaves, which includes our bank accounts. Let's give to God and trust Him, He won't disappoint!
